India defeated Australia by 6 runs in their opening warm up game.


India added a brilliant flourish to their World Cup campaign by narrowly defeating Australia by 6 runs in a gripping thriller. Mohammad Shami, a recent addition to the Indian team, was unexpectedly called upon to bowl a valiant final over.


After winning the toss, Australia chose to bowl first, but as India started the powerplay on fire, Australia appeared to have no idea what they were doing. KL Rahul made a strong start to the game and appeared to be in incredible form as he hit with tremendous power.

After a 78-run opening stand, India's first wicket was lost in the eighth over as Rahul left the field for 57 runs in 33 balls. Before being dismissed, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli contributed only a meagre 15 and 19 runs, respectively.


The Indian middle order was once again saved by Suryakumar Yadav, who produced yet another half-century at the critical moment. In contrast to Dinesh Karthik, who scored 20 runs off just 14 balls, Hardik Pandya only managed to score two runs before being bowled out by Kane Richardson in the 17th over.

The men in blue scored 186/7 in their 20 overs before Suryakumar Yadav got out in the last over. Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Ashton Agar each grabbed one wicket as Richardson excelled, taking 4 wickets in his four overs.


When chasing the objective, the Australians were outstanding with the bat as openers gave the powerplay as quick with blazing start. Mitchell Marsh, who scored 35 runs in only 18 balls in India's fifth over, was struck out by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.


Australia's first exhibition game at the Gabba saw them fall 6 runs short as India took 4 wickets in the final 4 deliveries of the game. Indian bowlers, notably Shami, who may have secured a spot in the starting eleven, will be happy with their performance in the second half of the Australian batting order.
